Learn how to create beautiful decorative letters inspired by the Renaissance
Join professional calligrapher Jemma Toller to learn how to create a decorative capital letter inspired by the illuminated manuscripts in our exhibition 'Renaissance: Scotland and Europe, 1480-1630'.
During this workshop you will be shown step by step how to create your own version of an illuminated letter to take home.
We will trace your chosen letter onto watercolour paper, then use gouache paint to add colour and decorative details. Gold metallic watercolour will finish off your piece to give it a beautiful, illuminated look.
All materials will be provided.
There will also be an opportunity to find out more about the exhibition, and to see illuminated letters and decorative borders from the Renaissance period.
This workshop is suitable for everyone aged 16+. No experience of calligraphy required.
