Trace the movement of books from National Museum to National Library in this fascinating talk by Jill Dye.
Join Jill Dye, the Library's Head of Reader Services, as she explores the reaction of the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland to the creation of the National Library of Scotland in 1925.
Other national organisations had been collecting old books and manuscripts before the National Library existed.
One such organisation was the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland, now part of National Museums Scotland. They had been collecting a wide range of books and manuscripts since 1780.
In tracing the movement of books from the Museum to the Library in the 1930s to 1950s, Jill Dye will shed new light on both organisations. She will discuss the blurred division between book and object, and the desire for public access which were central to these decisions.
This event is part of our 100th birthday celebrations.
