Miriam Gamble is a poet and university lecturer living in Scotland.
Gamble drew inspiration from the 'The Lyon in Mourning' to write the poem 'Swivel'.
Gamble says:
'The extracts I’ve worked with offer windows onto the positions of women, children and animals in the human (male) power play of the lead up to, duration and aftermath of the Battle of Culloden...That was the idea: to pivot (or ‘swivel’) the text, bring different things – things that are kind-of background presences – into the foreground.'
