Ephemera from 1997 Scottish Devolution Referendum and the 1999 Scottish Parliamentary Election inspired Gunn's poem, 'Posters'.
Gunn says:
'Every child does it: you address an envelope with your name, your house, your street, your county, your country, your continent, your planet, the Solar System, the Universe. What I propose to do is to address the envelope of my life’s work as a writer in the opposite direction.’
