These ephemeral items are often the last surviving window onto Scottish LGBT+ culture, queer spaces, and collective organising. The display includes catalogues from Lavender Menace, Scotland's first gay and lesbian bookshop, which distributed reading lists for the community.
One of the most important bodies of material relating to LGBT+ histories in Scotland is held in the Library. It ranges from printed posters, pamphlets, magazines, and books to the archives of activists, writers, and organisations including OurStory Scotland.
This display features material from the archives of Lavender Menace [Acc.12766] and Jim Mearns [Acc.14225] and items acquired through legal deposit between 1974 and 2023. Badges are used with kind permission of the LGBT+ Staff Network.
The Library's LGBT+ Staff Network curated this display.
