When you join the Library or renew your membership, we need to see proof of your identity and your address. We need this information for the purposes of ensuring the security of our collections and for managing remote access to some of our electronic resources.
Forms of ID and proof of address
Accepted:
- A valid full driving licence which shows your current address, or
- Two of the following (one of which must show your current address):
- State-issued documents e.g. passport.
- Utility bills and financial documents (these can be on your phone or another mobile device).
- NHS documentation, e.g. NHS appointment letters and prescriptions.
- DVLA documentation or correspondence.
- Signed bank card or bus pass.
Not accepted:
- Mobile phone bills.
- Business cards.
- Online retailer delivery notes or invoices.
- Printed or scanned copies of documents.
- Tenancy agreements from private landlords.
- Provisional driving licence.
School students aged 16 and over
School students need to bring two pieces of identification. One of the following:
- a signed bank card;
- Citizen Card; or
- Young Scot Card.
And one of:
- a bank statement (this can be on your mobile banking on your phone or another mobile device);
- the letter that came with your National Insurance card, Citizen Card, or Young Scot Card;
- a letter on headed paper from your school that confirms your name and home address.
If your documents are in a language other than English, you need to provide an official translation of them. Please let us know if you are unable to provide a translation.
Please tell us if you change your address and provide proof for your new address.
