Copying services and re-using material

Sometimes we cannot copy material — or cannot copy it in certain ways — due to copyright restrictions or the need to protect the collections from wear and tear.

Copying by Library staff

For conservation reasons, our staff will carry out copying from any bound volumes on specially designed scanning equipment linked to a digital output device. This method of copying protects the material from damage. If an item is too fragile for any method, we might not be able to copy the item for you.

Delivery

We will try to complete orders as quickly as possible. To find out delivery times for reprographic orders, you can contact us through our online enquiry form.

We offer a limited level of self-service photocopying of general collection items and microform print-outs.

If the material is too fragile we cannot offer self-service photocopying and if an item has special handling requirements, we might ask that you use a specific copying process.

You can save scanned images (in colour) to a memory stick or print A3 or A4 to black and white printers. Print-outs from microform can be printed A3 and A4 to black and white printers. 

Add cash credit to your library card via our online printing portal. You can then use your library card to print, scan and copy.

To publish, adapt, show, or otherwise re-use materials you need permission from any third party copyright owners and sometimes you may need permission from the Library. Many of the digital images we have published on our websites are available for free re-use for commercial and non-commercial purposes. Availability for re-use will be indicated by a rights statement or licence. 

Re-use of material may require specific permission from the Library, in particular if you are requesting copies to be made of material, if you are re-using certain Map collection images or if you are re-using moving image content. See our copyright page for more information.
