Title page from Charles Rennie Mackintosh's competition design for 'House for an Art Lover', 1902.
It is perfectly possible that the best of Scottish design may inspire the worst.
It is not the fault of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) and his wife Margaret Macdonald (1864-1933) that their delicate and distinctive creations have had a life well beyond their original designs and intentions.
It is a shame perhaps that they did not make any money from the furniture, and the mirrors, and the jewellery and the knick-knacks which have ensured the survival of the CRM brand.
Remember the houses, built and unbuilt, and the interiors, and take a walk round the galleries and museums and Glasgow School of Art …
