100 years of Scottish photography
Explore a century of dramatic transformation and innovation in Scotland with 'Scotland's Photograph Album’.
The display is drawn from the MacKinnon photography collection. It contains more than 14,000 historical photographs, with images dating back to the 1840s.
A changing country captured on film
The display transports people back to a period of changing rural communities, growing cities and enduring historic sites. The panels explain the connection between social and photographic history and give a unique glimpse into the real lives of Scottish people.
The accompanying handling box contains historic photograph formats like a lantern slide and Albumen print. These allow visitors to get first-hand experience of rare and culturally significant materials.
