A Catalogue of the Library of the Faculty of Advocates, 1742 [Library shelfmark: AB.10.207.11].
For the Scottish Enlightenment intellectuals, the Library of the Faculty of Advocates was a hub for study.
Thomas Ruddiman (1674-1757) was appointed Keeper of the Faculty of Advocates Library in 1730.
He strongly influenced the growth and shaping of the Library's collections.
The catalogue of the Faculty of Advocates Library was begun in 1735, and was compiled by Ruddiman and Walter Goodall (1706-1766), the assistant librarian.
Handwritten shelfmarks on the pages of the catalogue were often changed, which reflects the continual growth and rearrangement of the Library's collections.
