A postcard with a press cutting about Muriel Spark's racehorse, 1965.
Muriel Spark enjoyed a day at the races.
During a trip back to London in 1965 she made a new kind of investment — a racehorse. She was the main shareholder in a syndicate which acquired the horse 'Lifeboat' from the Queen's stables.
While back in New York, Spark was regularly updated on Lifeboat's exploits by her partners.
As this postcard shows, Lifeboat's early outings proved unsuccessful, but victories soon arrived.
