The cover of the April-May 1948 issue of 'The Poetry Review', edited by Muriel Spark.
One of Muriel Spark's most significant jobs was at the Poetry Society, where she became General Secretary in 1947, and edited the 'The Poetry Review'.
She fought to modernise the periodical, but many of the quarrels became distinctly personal in nature.
An example of is the correspondence in 1948 between Spark and Dr Marie Stopes, inventor of the birth-control pill.
