'The Door of Youth', 1930.
Muriel Spark's early poetry gained unprecedented recognition in James Gillespie's High School Magazine in 1930.
The introduction to Muriel's poems reads:
'It is very seldom that we print more than one contribution from any one author, but the work of Muriel Camberg, aged twelve (2 Sen. A) is so much out of the ordinary, that we feel it worthwhile to give the following five of her poems.'
Her success continued that year when five of her poems were published in 'The Door of Youth', a collection of the finest poetry from across Edinburgh's schools.
One of them, 'To Everybody', was printed as a dedication at the beginning of the volume.
