Baptismal certificate for Charles Edward Stuart, 1720.
James VII's son, Charles Edward Stuart, was born in France on 31 December 1720.
Prince Charles was baptised by the Bishop of Montefiascone at the Palazzo Muti in Rome on the day of his birth.
With the arrival of a son the Stuart line would continue for another generation, but Charles produced no heirs and it was extinguished with the death of his younger brother, Henry, in 1807.
