Illustration of 'Summer' from 'The Seasons' by James Thomson (Perth: Robert Morison & Co, 1793). [Library shelfmark: Dry.653]
In 1793, Perth-based publisher Robert Morison & Son commissioned Scottish artists Charles Catton and Richard Corbould to create illustrations for 'The Seasons'.
Using aquatint technology, they produced an edition of Thomson's poems containing illustrations available in both monochrome and colour.
This edition was so well-received it was sold in London to collectors of fine-printed illustrated books.
