The poems of Edinburgh-born poet Robert Fergusson (1750-1774) were included in the first-ever illustrated series of literary texts published in Scotland.
They were published in two volumes, entitled 'Poems on Various Subjects', and were the first to feature visual interpretations of Fergusson's poetry.
Perth-based publishers Robert Morison & Co produced the illustrated series between 1788 and 1789. Entitled 'The Scotish Poets', it also featured works of other national poets, such as Allan Ramsay.
