'Osbert' painted by Hugh Buchanan.
Hugh Buchanan's watercolour shows the lighthearted nature of many of Osbert Lancaster's comedic works featured in the John Murray Archive.
Lancaster was an illustrator and satirist who invented the pocket cartoon in daily newspapers and produced cartoons for the 'Daily Express' from 1939-1981.
Visitors to the Library's display could see several of Lancaster's cartoons from the John Murray Archive.
This item featured in our display, 'Hugh Buchanan paints the John Murray Archive', at the Library from 25 June until 6 September 2015.
