An engraving depicting David Livingstone being attacked in Africa by a lion.
Embarrassed by the incident, Scots explorer David Livingstone would be horrified to learn that the most popular image of his many years in Africa is of him being mauled by a lion.
But you cannot deny the public taste: many cry out for scenes of action and danger, of wildlife and hunting. Children especially have shown an insatiable appetite to see the lion incident repeated again and again.
Items relating to images of the lion attack featured in the 'Picturing Africa' exhibition, which ran from 14 June to 3 November 2013.
