This pin badge, with the HIV/AIDS ribbon beaded in red, was made in Cape Town in South Africa in the early 1990s. It was one of many crafted and sold by women's initiatives in South Africa. Some women with HIV were able to support themselves and their families by selling these and similar crafts, but the beaded AIDS ribbon badge was iconic, and a symbol of hope.
