Services available to visitors to the National Library of Scotland and to remote users include:
Enquiry service
We offer a basic free scientific enquiry service. We welcome enquiries by phone, fax and email, so please contact us to see if we can help with your query. Typical enquiries include checking definitions and translations — e.g. 'What is French for yellow fish?' — checking biographical details on scientists, and checking journal references.
Database searches
Contact us to find out how we can search electronic resources for you.
Photocopying services
Photocopying is available through the Library's copying services.
Inter-library loans
For items not held by the National Library of Scotland an inter-library loan can be arranged. You don't need to visit the Library to use this service unless the item supplied can only be consulted within the Library.
