Photograph of mask of 'Agamemnon', 1878 [Library reference: Acc.12973/9].
German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann discovered a golden mask during his excavations of the Mycenae site. The mask has been contraversially attributed to Agamemnon, the son of the King of Mycenae.
In the story of the Trojan War, it was Agamemnon who led an army to retrieve Menelaus' wife Helen when she was abducted by Paris of Troy.
