Professor Celeste-Marie Bernier is Chair of Black Studies at the University of Edinburgh. In her talk she traces the celebrated life of Frederick Douglass alongside the hidden lives of his children.
Douglass was an author and activist who worked for the end of slavery on British and American shores, alongside his daughters and sons: Rosetta, Lewis, Charles, Frederick Jr and Annie.
This talk marked the opening of the National Library of Scotland's display about Frederick Douglass and his family.
