Rebinding the Birds of America in the Royal Collection: Part one
Philippa Räder reveals the major conservation project undertaken to preserve Audubon's immense work, 'The Birds of America', in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle.
The book contains 435 hand-coloured images, described as 'the best illustrations of American birds yet published'. Audubon insisted that the engravings should depict birds life-size in their natural habitat, offering a unique perspective and leading to the book's enormous size.
