Library Search was launched in October 2018 as a new way into the National Library of Scotland collections. Since the launch, we have developed the service and we are committed to continually improving it.

Look, feel and display of Library Search
Completed developments include:
- Updates to include where items can be consulted — e.g. 'General Reading Room, Edinburgh' or 'Moving Image Archive, Glasgow'.
- Added the service title under the main search box.
Ongoing developments include:
- Continually reviewing how we present the information about items — ensuring it is relevant and useful
Planned developments include:
- Reviewing the position and alignment for the search filters
Functionality and content of Library Search
Completed developments include:
- Prioritised the results from Library collections by making it the default pre-filter
- Enabled voice search functionality in Chrome, Samsung and Android browsers
- Provided the option to remember filters for subsequent searches.
Ongoing developments include:
- Ensuring access to electronic resources is maintained and kept as smooth as possible.
Planned developments include:
- Improving the linking between past and continued journal titles
- Providing a collection discovery feature to showcase specific items in our collections.
Guidance and tips to help you use Library Search
Completed developments include:
- Published a Library Search help page
- Enriched the item information by adding book cover images, book summaries and professional and reader reviews
- Added a footer to the Library Search homepage with useful links
- Added tooltips to top menu bar.
- Included a quick access button to our chat service.
Ongoing developments include:
- Continually reviewing and updating of our search guides and resources.
Planned developments include:
- Reviewing the footer to include it on all Library Search pages
