A strategic priority
Supporting learning, research and discovery is one of the strategic priorities of the Library's strategy for 2020-2025, 'Reaching people':
- We encourage and support research, learning and discovery.
- We will support the contribution of new knowledge to the world by developing research collaborations and research fellowships.
- We will encourage investigations of the collections from different angles, uncovering untold stories and giving fresh perspectives on society and culture, including key areas of public debate such as climate change and misinformation.
- We will develop our digital scholarship service by presenting the collections as data, opening up new possibilities for research, learning and creativity.
- We will provide people with access to learning through our collections in support of the curriculum, lifelong learning, creative practice and continuous professional development.
The National Library of Scotland Research Repository
The National Library of Scotland has recently launched a Research Repository. This is a platform for research produced by staff and collaborative PhD students of the National Library of Scotland during their employment, or as part of their studentship. Material not produced by or in association with National Library of Scotland staff is not eligible for inclusion.
The Repository houses material such as journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, reports, and datasets. We are still at an early stage of loading our research outputs.
The platform is part of a Shared Research Repository service encompassing the research outputs of a growing number of UK cultural and heritage institutions. Partners include the British Library, British Museum, National Museums Scotland, National Trust, Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA), Science Museum Group and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Our separate repositories can be visited each in turn or explored together via a single search through the collaborative Shared Research Repository page. The British Library manages the shared repository service.
